Big spending Singida Black Stars are well over a month without a victory after Saturday’s 1-3 defeat to TRA United in Tanzania’s top flight Ligi Kuu Bara.
The CAF Confederation Cup group stage participants are enduring a winless slump that was extended to five matches in all competitions with the defeat to the club formerly known as Tabora United. Ivorian defender Anthony Tra Bi’s own goal confirmed the disappointing result shortly after Shaban Chilunda put the visitors ahead in the 83rd minute.
After an excellent start to the 2025-26 campaign that saw them claim the CECAFA Kagame Interclub Cup and qualify for the Confederation Cup group stage with ease, it has been a difficult period for the new kids on the block in Tanzanian football.
The club has only scored three goals during their winless streak, a sign that the “wear and tear” of balancing domestic and continental duties is having a negative impact on the club’s fortunes. In addition to struggling against lesser sides in domestic play, Black Stars fell to Algerian giants CR Belouizdad in their Group C opener in the Confederation Cup before needing a late equalizer to draw South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC in their first home fixture in the group.
Tanzania’s three other clubs involved in CAF club competition, which include Azam FC and main title contenders Simba SC and Young Africans, will be in action on Sunday. Simba hosts Azam in the early match and Yanga will clash with Coastal Union before the league takes an extended break for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
