The ongoing controversy surrounding the Kariakoo Derby will take center stage in Tanzania after victories on Sunday for title contenders Simba SC and Young Africans (Yanga) in the Mainland Premier League.
The Dar es Salaam giants continued to take care of business ahead of their decisive clash to conclude the league campaign. Clatous Chama’s goal in the opening minute from an assist by Clement Mzize put Yanga on path to a 5-0 victory over Dodoma Jiji. Four second half goals prevented any slip up from the defending champions who remain one point clear of Simba.
For Simba, it was not quite as straightforward against already relegated Kagera Sugar but Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala’s finish in the 16th minute was enough for the Reds in a 1-0 victory.
Now it comes down to the final match, a Kariakoo Derby fixture that has has plenty of controversy and discussion around its scheduling. It appears that all is set for the clash on Wednesday where Yanga will retain their league title if they can avoid defeat against CAF Confederation Cup finalists Simba.
