Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Miloud Hamdi has challenged his players to maintain the style of play which was on show when they hammered KMC 6-1 in a Mainland Premier League fixture at KMC Stadium on Friday.

Having started his reign with the Tanzanian champions on a disappointing note – a 0-0 draw against JKT Tanzania – the Algerian gaffer was left impressed as Yanga rained goals to dislodge rivals Simba SC and reclaim the top position in the league table.

A hat-trick from Stephane Aziz Ki, including one from the penalty spot, a goal apiece for Prince Dube, Maxi Mpia Nzengeli and Israel Patrick Mwenda were enough to hand the Timu ya Mwananchi their 16th win of the campaign.

“I am very happy with my players, I am happy with how they played, they were aggressive, they pressed, they wanted to go front, they wanted to score, they wanted to play with one block, as a team, very high and that is what I told them to do before the game in the meeting and they did it today,” Hamdi told Pan-Africa Football.

“They changed the mentality, it was a good display compared to how we played against JKT Tanzania, this is not how we played against JKT, there was a lot of improvement from the players, they changed completely and that is the football that I like and I am very happy for the fans, because they like to see such kind of football.”

The former Singida United coach continued: “We deserved to score maybe, two or three goals more and we must work for that, we must take our chances no matter how many we have scored.

“We want to focus on the next game, and to be honest, that is the football that I like, the first 25 minutes, we played with big level, they played like champions, it was very good level, we can play very good and we must continue to play so.”

With Simba’s game against Dodoma Jiji that was scheduled for Saturday being postponed, Yanga will stay at the summit as they moved two points clear of their bitter rivals.
