After over three weeks out of action, reigning Tanzanian champions Young Africans returned to competitive play on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over Namungo in the NBC Premier League.
Two goals in less than three minutes close to the half hour mark left little doubt about what the result would be at the KMC Complex. Stephane Aziz Ki opened the scoring in style in the 27th minute when the Burkinabe international exchanged passes with Maxi Nzengeli before firing in his finish to complete a stylish goal.
In the 30th minute, it was striker Prince Dube's turn to add to his goal tally. The Zimbabwean showed off his instincts in the penalty box when he received a cross from Kibwana Shomari before turning and placing his finish past Namungo goalkeeper Jonathan Nahimana.
Congolese winger Nzengeli completed the scoring in the 74th minute and Yanga are now four points clear of rivals Simba SC with one more match played.
The Citizens will next look to clinch a place in the final of the Federation Cup when they face JKT Tanzania in the semifinals on May 18. JKT will enter the cup tie coming off a victory after defeating Fountain Gate 3-1 earlier on Tuesday, snapping a two-match losing streak. Pamba Jiji also won with a 2-0 result over already relegated KenGold.
Azam FC will finish up Tuesday's fixtures when they host Dodoma Jiji later.
