On Wednesday, Young Africans overcame the distraction of former coach Sead Ramovic's sudden departure by satisfying home supporters with a 6-1 victory over last placed KenGold in Tanzania's top tier Ligi Kuu Bara.
Prince Dube scored a hat-trick while Clement Mzize scored twice and influential Ivorian midfielder Pacôme Zouzoua added the other goal. There was absolutely no doubt about the result from opening whistle as hapless KenGold fell behind to a strike from Zimbabwean forward Dube inside two minutes.
Dube was assisted by Burkinabe forward Stephane Aziz Ki, who set up Mzize's first goal to double Yanga's lead before six minutes had elapsed in the match. Dube added an assist to his Man of the Match performance in the 35th minute when his well measured pass found the run of former ASEC Mimosas star Zouzoua for an easy finish into an empty net.
KenGold, newly promoted for the 2024-25 Ligi Kuu Bara season, have only earned 6 points from 17 matches and looked like a group of amateurs trying to resist the waves of Yanga attacks. Mzize closed out the first half with a fourth goal for the hosts and his second, moving to the top of the league scoring charts with nine goals total following a simple finish from close range.
Dube added two more goals in the second half to complete his hat-trick before a late consolation for the visitors. The arrival of KenGold as Wednesday's opponents came at a good time for Yanga who underwent a coaching change the day before after the departure of Ramovic who is rumored to be joining Algerian giants CR Belouizdad. The Citizens are two points clear of rivals Simba SC at the top of the table in an ongoing tug-of-war for top spot.
In the earlier match played on Wednesday, Tabora United overcame an early deficit to top Namungo by a 2-1 score. Former Yanga forward Heritier Makambo confirmed the victory with his goal early in the second half as Tabora continue a good campaign in fifth place.
