Defending Tanzanian top flight champions Young Africans did not have it easy on Monday but preserved their lead with a 1-0 home victory over Ligi Kuu Bara relegation candidates Coastal Union.
Ivorian playmaker Pacôme Zouzoua scored the only goal of the match in the 35th minute. The former ASEC Mimosas star arrived at the far post to head in an accurate cross from Congolese attacker Maxi Nzengeli.
The goal was enough for the hosts to claim all three points at the KMC Complex. Yanga now hold a seven-point lead ahead of fierce rivals Simba SC, who have two games in hand on the Citizens.
Simba are currently on a break from domestic league play while the Reds take part in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals. They face Egypt's Al Masry on Wednesday in the second leg they will host in Dar es Salaam, where Simba need to overcome an 0-2 first leg defeat in Egypt.
Yanga continue their league campaign on Thursday in a difficult test away to Azam FC, who currently sit in third place.
