The former Simba SC and TP Mazembe star received the ball in the penalty area before turning and firing in his first goal with the club. He arrived at Le Havre on a free transfer from Greek giants PAOK ahead of the current season.
Tunisia left back Ali Abdi leveled for hosts Nice close to the hour mark in an eventual draw. The result leaves both teams just above the relegation zone with Nice occupying 15th position, one point behind Sunday’s opponents.
Samatta, now 33-years-old, is certainly deep into the twilight of his career but his ability to hold the ball up and play as a traditional #9 forward continues to be valuable. He also played an important leadership role for Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he donned the captain’s armband for two matches as the Taifa Stars reached the Round of 16.
In his club career, he won Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League with KRC Genk while winning the Ebony Shoe as well as the Greek Superleague with PAOK. The first Tanzanian to play in the English Premier League, Samatta also registered a league goal with Aston Villa and scored a handful of goals for Turkish Süper Lig club Fenerbahçe.
