The fourth round of the French Ligue 1 saw goal and assist contributions from African players, who helped their respective teams secure important wins in the week 4 encounters.

Nabil Bentaleb scored from the spot to inspire LOSC Lille to a 2-1 comeback win over Toulouse. The Algerian played the last ten minutes of the duel but performed well as Lille rallied from behind to snatch their third win of the season.

Toulouse took the lead through Cameroon international Frank Magri just after the restart. Morocco’s Osame Sahraoui assisted the winner for Ethan Mbappe deep into stoppage time.

Also of note, DR Congo captain Chancel Mbemba made his Lille debut after replacing the injured Brazilian defender Alexsandro in the first half.

Habib Diallo’s homecoming to FC Metz ended in disappointment as Algerian midfielder Himad Abdelli managed to grab a late equalizer from the penalty spot for Angers. Metz took the lead through Ivorian midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin, and Senegal international Diallo missed a spot kick in the second half.

Magri and Paris FC’s Ilan Kebbal remain the top African goal scorers in Ligue 1 after netting three goals each.
