Ligue 1 Recap: Koffi with ninth clean sheet, Sbaï stars for Angers; Arthur Avom saves point for Lorient

Burkina Faso national team goalkeeper Hervé Koffi collected another clean sheet while Marshall Munetsi and Arthur Avom got on the scoresheet to help their respective clubs each earn a point over the weekend in Ligue 1.

Koffi is thriving on loan at Angers SCO after being relegated to backup duties at fellow French top flight club Lens. He made three saves in a 1-0 victory at FC Nantes while preventing 0.77 expected goals for his ninth clean sheet in league play. Angers ended a three-match losing streak with the result.

Moroccan midfielder Amine Sbaï provided the decisive moment for Angers with a fantastic strike to give the visitors all three points. Angers remain in a safe midtable position this season after battling relegation for much of the previous campaign.

The Moroccan was named in L’Équipe’s Team of the Week for his efforts, the only African player to be given the honor this week in France’s top sport publication.

Zimbabwean midfielder Marshall Munetsi continued an impressive scoring streak on Sunday, making it three consecutive matches with a goal in Paris FC’s 1-1 draw at Olympique Lyonnais.

Unfortunately, the club from the capital had to settle for a draw after Corentin Tolisso’s penalty kick deep into second half stoppage time spared Lyon’s blushes. However, a strong defense and the addition of players like Munetsi, on loan from Premier League club Wolves, has the newly-promoted club on course to retain their top flight status for next season.

Promising Cameroonian midfielder Arthur Avom was also among the goal scorers over the weekend with a late equalizer to give Lorient a point away at Lille. A spectacular strike from distance allowed the visitors to snatch a result in dramatic fashion deep into second half stoppage time.

The 21-year-old is perhaps suffering a bit from the demands of national team football with Cameroon in addition to his club duties, but continues to develop into one of the league’s top young midfield talents. Lorient are in 10th place currently.

Amadou Haïdara was also among the scorers as the Malian midfielder completed a 3-0 victory for Lens against Metz. The halftime substitute needed less than eight minutes into the second half. A long time member of the Red Bull system with RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg, his recent acquisition adds depth to the Lens team.
