In DR Congo the regional championships and rivalries are highly valued and on Sunday it was a true derby atmosphere as Kinshasa giants AS Vita Club and DC Motema Pembe clashed for local bragging rights.
It was supporters of Les Dauphins Noirs of VClub who were celebrating at the end. After excellent work and a precise cross from wide player Ayrton Mboko, Nigerian winger Abayomi Ayinla arrived to nod in the winning goal early in the second half to help the 15-time Congolese champions to a 2-1 victory over DCMP.
An early exchange of goals kept the match intriguing but VClub secured three points to move up in the Group B table where they are in 5th position on 12 points. Current CAF Champions League participants AS Maniema Union lead the group with 17 points despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to second place club AC Rangers.
In Group A, FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo lead following a 1-0 victory at AS Malole. Les Cheminots are five points ahead of reigning champions TP Mazembe who won 3-0 at Lubumbashi Sport and still have one less match played.
