Linda Mntambo, captain of Betway Premiership club Sekhukhune United, is staying put. The club announced the midfielder’s contract renewal along with four other key players, signalling their intent for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
Mntambo, 36, was a vital force in Sekhukhune’s attack last season, netting seven goals from midfield in 26 appearances. His leadership and contributions both on and off the pitch made his extension a priority for Head Coach Eric Tinkler’s plans.
Joining Mntambo in renewing their contracts are former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso, striker Chibuike Ohizu, winger Vusimuzi Ncube, and centre-back Tresor Tshibwabwa.
These five players were instrumental in Sekhukhune’s strong performance in the 2024/25 campaign, which saw them finish fourth in the Betway Premiership for the second consecutive time, accumulating 46 points from 28 outings.
Ohizu, the Nigerian-born striker, made 25 appearances and scored six goals, while the veteran defender Cardoso featured in 27 games. Ncube, with 19 appearances, contributed five assists, and the Congolese centre-back Tshibwabwa played in 29 games, providing three assists.
“Sekhukhune United FC is proud to announce the contract extensions of these senior players: Linda Mntambo, Chibuike Ohizu, Daniel Cardoso, Vusimuzi Ncube, and Tresor Tshibwabwa,” reads the club statement. “Their commitment and fighting spirit, continues with the Babina Noko family!”
This move by Sekhukhune demonstrates their ambition to compete for continental football. By retaining their experienced core, the club aims to build on their promising fourth-place finish, which put them just two points shy of a CAF Confederation Cup spot last season.
