Mbarara City FC head coach Livingston Mbabazi has resigned from his position following the team’s 2-0 home defeat to KCCA FC at Kakyeka Stadium.

The loss marked the end of a difficult first round for Mbarara City, with the club languishing in 13th place on the Uganda Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone.

The defeat, sealed by goals from Etienne Katenga and Emmanuel Anyama, capped a disappointing run of form that saw the team collect only three wins, five draws, and seven losses in 15 matches.

Mbabazi, in an emotional address to the club’s management and players, acknowledged the team’s struggles and expressed gratitude for their support. “I want to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication throughout this season,” Mbabazi stated.

“From our opening match against SC Villa to today’s game against KCCA, it’s been a journey filled with challenges. I deeply appreciate the commitment shown by the players, staff, and fans, even during difficult times.”

He added: “For the good of the club, I believe it’s time for a new direction. I have decided to step aside and let someone else take the reins. Today’s game against KCCA was my last as head coach. I wish the team all the best in the Uganda Cup and the rest of the season.”

This marks the end of Mbabazi’s third stint at Mbarara City, having previously coached the team in 2018 and 2021. He returned before the start of the current season succeeding Wasswa Bbosa, who is now at Kitara FC.

Mbabazi is a seasoned tactician with experience managing several top-flight clubs including Wakiso Giants, Onduparaka, URA FC, Masavu, Arua Hill, and Vipers SC.

Mbarara City FC will now look to appoint a new head coach as they prepare for their Uganda Cup fixture this Sunday in Soroti.
