Former Atalanta forward Germán Denis has backed Serie A champions Napoli to go for the services of Nigeria and Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman.
According to Denis, the Super Eagles forward, who joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, would be a great addition to Napoli’s squad ahead of the new season.
Following his superb showing for Atalanta in the just-concluded campaign, Lookman has been linked with a move away from the Bergamo club, with a number of teams including Napoli, Juventus, Barcelona and Arsenal reportedly interested in his services.
“Lookman would be perfect for Napoli, he has shown impressive growth,” Denis said in an interview with Radio Goal, as reported by Napoli Magazine and quoted by allnigeriasoccer. “He has become a champion, and today he makes a difference. He is a player who would be great at Napoli.”
In a recent interview, the newly appointed Atalanta head coach Ivan Juric said that he was determined to keep the CAF African Player of the Year at the club.
The former Southampton coach, as quoted by Calcio Napoli, said he had no intentions of selling Lookman as he was yet to make a request to the board of the players.
“The idea would be to keep both Lookman and Ederson, even if the club has clear ideas on the market and I have not made any requests on players, not even on those I have had,” said Jurisic.
In the 31 matches last season, Lookman contributed 15 Serie A goals, chipping in with five assists. The 27-year-old has one year left on his contract with La Dea, and is yet to see if he will be offered a new contract.
