Goalkeeper Luca Zidane, the son of French legend Zinedine Zidane, has decided to commit his international future to Algeria instead of France.
Born near Marseille, the 27-year-old previously represented France at youth level but has now chosen to follow his family roots. His father, Zinedine Zidane, hails from the Kabylie region of Algeria, though he famously went on to play for Les Bleus, winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup and becoming one of the nation’s greatest icons.
Luca currently plays for Granada in Spain’s Segunda Division. A product of Real Madrid’s academy, he rose through the youth ranks at the Bernabeu before joining the senior team. His career has since taken him on loan to Racing Santander in 2019, followed by spells at Rayo Vallecano and Eibar, before settling at Granada.
The goalkeeper is now expected to be in contention for Algeria’s upcoming October training camp, where he could make his debut. The Fennecs are preparing for crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, with fixtures against Somalia and Uganda set to play a decisive role in their road to the finals.
Zidane’s decision is both a boost to the squad’s quality and a link to one of football’s most iconic players. For Algeria, bringing in Luca Zidane could strengthen their goalkeeping options as they look to book their ticket to the next World Cup.
