Speaking to the club website, Lukwago could not hide his joy, emphasizing how much KCCA still means to him.
“KCCA is a club that holds a special place in my heart, and I am ready to give my all to help the team achieve its objectives,” he said.
The shot-stopper also stressed that he comes back as a more refined player:
“I return with more experience and a better understanding of the game. We have a mix of youth and experience in the group, and hopefully we can use that well to achieve the main team objectives,” he added.
Lukwago is no stranger at Lugogo, having spent five successful years with the Kasasiro Boys between 2016 and 2021. During that period, he cemented his place as one of the finest goalkeepers in Ugandan football under then-coach Mike Mutebi.
His honors include two Uganda Premier League titles (2017, 2019), consecutive Uganda Cup triumphs (2017, 2018), and a pivotal role in the club’s history-making continental campaigns — reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stages in 2017 and the CAF Champions League group phase in 2018.
Perhaps his most unforgettable moment came in 2019 when, as captain, he led KCCA to their second CECAFA Kagame Cup crown, ending a 41-year wait for regional silverware.
Following his departure in 2021, Lukwago turned out for Ethiopian powerhouses Saint George FC, later joining Hawassa City, before sealing a move to South African side Venda FC in 2024.
At KCCA, the returning custodian will now compete for the number one spot with Mutwalibi Mugolofa, Anthony Emojong, and Humphrey Oyirwoth.
Lukwago becomes the club’s seventh major signing in the current transfer window, joining Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Herbert Achayi, Lazaro Muhindo, Enock Walusimbi, Rogers Mugisha, and Ssali Alpha Thierry.
