Ugandan forward Peter Lwasa continued his fine form in the Tanzania Premier League, netting his eighth goal of the season as Kagera Sugar secured a crucial 2-1 comeback victory against Pamba at Kaitaba Stadium.

The visitors took the lead through Mathew Tegisi Momanyi in the first half, but Shaphan Oyugi equalized for Kagera Sugar in the 42nd minute. Lwasa then sealed the win in the 65th minute, giving his side their first victory since February 14.

Lwasa, who struggled for game time at KCCA FC last season, has flourished in the highly competitive Ligi Kuu Bara, proving his worth as a key figure in Kagera Sugar’s attack. “I feel so happy to be performing like this in my first season at Kagera,” Lwasa told Pan-Africa Football.

“It’s all about dedication, hard work, and focus. I want to be consistent and help the team finish in better positions. I want to build my legacy at Kagera and the league overall, and I thank God that I am progressing well.”

Despite sitting 14th in the 16-team table, Kagera Sugar has relied heavily on Lwasa’s contributions. His goals have directly influenced three of the team’s four wins and have accounted for 11 of their 19 points.

Some of his standout performances include a brace in Kagera Sugar’s 3-0 win over Singida Fountain Gate, as well as decisive goals in victories against Pamba (2-1) and Dodoma (2-1).

He also found the net in the 1-1 draws against Namungo and Pamba. After 23 matches, Kagera Sugar has suffered 12 losses and registered seven draws, while league leaders Yanga SC sit comfortably at the top with 58 points from 22 games.

Lwasa is now just three goals behind the league’s top scorer, Yanga’s Prince Dube (11). He is level on eight goals with fellow Ugandan Steven Mukwala, while Charles Mzize (10) and Jean Charles Ahoua (9) also feature prominently on the scoring charts.

The former URA FC attacker has also played for Kenyan clubs Sofapaka, Kariobangi Sharks, and Gor Mahia before making his move to Tanzania.
