Burnley FC coach Scott Parker insists South African striker Lyle Foster is far from making a return from what the Clarets boss described as a big knee injury he picked up while representing Bafana Bafana recently.
The 24-year-old suffered the injury while featuring for South Africa in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in October, the latest setback for the player who was sidelined by reported mental illness issues in the last AFCON final edition held in Ivory Coast. Parker told Burnley Express newspaper in the United Kingdom that the 24-year-old was far from returning to action.
“Lyle will still be a few weeks. He had a big injury, so it will be a few weeks. But Joe Worrall is in the right place. We’ve got some big players on the treatment table, Aaron Ramsey, Jordan Beyer, Nathan Redmond...they’re moving in the right direction and hopefully we can get them back and they can also help and add to what we need,” Parker is quoted saying.
Parker’s remarks cast doubt on the former Orlando Pirates forward featuring in the next Sky Bet Championship match for the Clarets against Bristol City on Saturday, November 23. Foster, who has one goal and one assist in nine appearances across all competitions this season, is the main front man for Burnley who sit in fourth place in the standings four points behind Championship leaders Sunderland.
The South African won the Clarets fans' Goal of the Month award in August for an absolute stunner he authored in the 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers.
The Johannesburg-born attacker took his club form to country as he scored in the home 2-2 draw for Bafana Bafana against Uganda then featured in the 3-2 win over South Sudan on the road in Group K qualifiers in October before returning to England.
