Kaizer Chiefs‘ new signing, Lebohang Maboe, has broken his silence on his recent return to the Soweto giants, calling it an “honour and privilege.”
The midfielder, who was officially unveiled to fans at FNB Stadium in Soweto during the goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, August 27, rejoins his boyhood club as a free agent.
Maboe’s journey back to Naturena comes after a successful career that took him from Chiefs’ development ranks to becoming a key player at Maritzburg United and later at Sundowns.
At Sundowns, Maboe’s career was a testament to his attacking prowess, as he registered 20 goals and 23 assists in over 150 appearances. However, his recent seasons were marred by injuries, leading to limited game time and a brief loan spell at SuperSport United before his contract expired.
Speaking at a community event at Phulong Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, Springs. on Wednesday, Maboe expressed his excitement about being back at the club and his ambitions for the future.
The PSL, together with Nedbank and the 2025 Nedbank Cup Champions @KaizerChiefs, handed over a brand-new multipurpose sports court to Phulong Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, Springs.

“It’s such an honour and privilege to be in such an institute like Kaizer Chiefs. I’m glad that I’m back home,” Maboe said at the handover of a new sports court, a joint initiative by Chiefs and Nedbank. “I want to do well with the team, and I want to win silverware with the team. It’s a great feeling to be back at home and welcomed the way I was. So I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”
Maboe joins a Chiefs side that has started the season impressively. They currently sit second on the league table with 13 points from five matches, having won four and drawn one while maintaining a perfect record of five clean sheets. The midfielder will be hoping to contribute to their strong form and help them continue their chase for silverware.
