Madagascar’s Elgeco Plus secure historic first league title

Elgeco Plus were crowned champions of Madagascar for the first time in their history on Sunday after defeating COSFA 3-0 in their final game as the 2024/25 Malagasy Pureplay Football League (PFL) concluded.

Elgeco dominated the final game against COSFA. A goal from Cameroonian import Kevin Ismail gave Elgeco the lead. Mamisoa Rakotoson doubled the lead before Jean-Eudes Raveloarison sealed the win in the second interval.

The six-time Madagascar Cup champions won the league title for the first time in their history. Their head coach, Careca Rafanomezantsoa, told Midi Madagasikara that the club will shift its focus to the CAF Champions League:

“We are champions by the grace of God, despite a difficult journey. This fusion of young talents and experienced players gave us the advantage. Ismail is a major asset with his size and power. For the CAF Champions League, we will make changes, because this African challenge is on another level. We will strengthen the squad.”

Elgeco was founded after the fusion of two clubs, Real Elgeco Plus and AS Saint Michel, in 2008. Their president, Alfred Randriamanampisoa, is also the head of the Malagasy Football Association.
