Magesi FC have announced John Maduka as their new head coach as they prepare for the upcoming 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
Maduka steps into the hot seat, succeeding Owen Da Gama, who recently parted ways with the club.
Da Gama took the helm at Magesi FC on a six-month contract and played a pivotal role in their top-flight survival. When he arrived, the Carling Knockout Cup champions were languishing at the bottom of the table, with a mere six points from 10 matches in their debut season.
But under his leadership, the team staged an impressive turnaround, securing seven wins and four draws while suffering seven defeats, ultimately finishing the season in a respectable 13th place. Despite his success, Da Gama and the club could not reach an agreement on a new contract.
“HE’S HERE. Magesi Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of John Maduka as head coach. Welcome to the family,” reads the club statement released on Thursday.
Maduka brings a wealth of experience to Magesi FC. He previously had two stints as coach of Royal AM, a club that was dissolved last season due to issues between their president, Shauwn Mkhize, and SARS.
This leaves the 54-year-old Maduka poised and ready to take on a new challenge. His mandate will be clear: to steer Magesi FC towards an even more successful second season in the Betway Premiership.
As part of their preparations for the new season, Magesi FC has also announced the departure of ten players: Gift Motupa, Neverdie Makhubela, Deolin Mekoa, Rhulani Manzini, Amos Mokwena, Boikanyo Komane, Maboke Matlakala, Anathi Ngwadla, Given Mashikinya, and Menzi Ndwandwe.
