Magesi FC president raises next season’s Betway Premiership bar

Magesi Football Club president, Dr Solly Makhubela, has set a lofty top-eight finish for the club in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

The Dikwena Tša Meetse’s boss told Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified on Tuesday, 2 July 2025 that he wants the team to build on its promising showing of last season. Then under coach Clinton Larsen, the team stunned heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns and won the Carling KnockOut Cup.

Makhubela said his team was capable of replicating the cup exploits in the league by finishing within the top-eight band.

“I think we are planning to be in the top eight… we are planning that,” Makhubela told the radio station. “If you look at it, we just missed the top eight by three points.”

The club chairperson said the ball is in the management’s court to ensure a better finish in the coming season.

“You know, I’m a person that likes to grow people, to develop people; even in my industry, I like that. I like to give people a chance to learn, and I’m someone who says, if I’m not there tomorrow, people must be able to run the club,” he said.

Magesi are now on the market seeking to replace 10 players they released last week alongside coach Owen da Gama. Magesi became the first newly -promoted team to win the Carling Knockout in the Premier Soccer League era after beating Sundowns 2-1 last November 2024.

However, Dikwena Tša Meetse struggled to transfer that form into the league, prompting Larsen to jump ship. Da Gama came in his place and steadied the ship with the team finishing the season in 13th spot in the Betway Premiership.
