Magesi coach Owen da Gama has called on his players to play each game in the Betway Premiership as a Cup final in their bid to avoid being relegated at the end of the season.
Following their latest 1-0 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs, Magesi remained rooted second from bottom of the 16-team table. However, with last placed Royal AM still suspended from league action, it means Magesi are lying bottom of the log.
But according to Da Gama, the next three league fixtures, which they will play at home could save their season if they haul maximum points. Their next three matches will start against Richards Bay on March 11, Golden Arrows on March 16 and Stellenbosch on March 29.
“Two wins could make a really big difference there at the bottom. We take each game like a cup final. The players know that two... three results will make us turn the corner,” Da Gama told reporters as quoted by SowetanLive. “We have been doing very well at home, not travelling very well, so we've got three home games now in a row.
“They've have won only two of their nine league games at home with five defeats and two draws, while they've also managed two wins out of their 12 fixtures on the road, with seven defeats and three stalemates.
“So, I think that's a good motivation for the players, knowing that we're winning games at home. Let's try and push as hard as we can. The players know that one game makes a difference in the league.”
So far this season, Magesi have managed four wins, five draws and suffered 12 defeats. They have accumulated 17 points from 21 matches.
