Pyramids FC have received a major blow with the suspension of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele.
Mayele has been handed a one-match suspension and fined EGP 5,000 after receiving his third yellow card. The booking came during Pyramids' 4-2 defeat to National Bank in the previous round.
As a result, the forward will be unavailable for Pyramids' important encounter against Zamalek in Matchday 6 of the title phase of the Nile Egyptian League.
The Congolese striker has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 22 appearances in the Nile Egyptian League this season. He has also netted eight goals in the CAF Champions League campaign so far, including 2 against South Africa's Orlando Pirates in the semifinals.
Pyramids currently sit second in the league standings with 47 points, just two behind leaders Al Ahly.
The club is enduring a difficult period, having lost their last two league matches — results that cost them the top spot in the table to the benefit of defending champions Al Ahly.
These setbacks come before a crucial tie for Pyramids, who are going to face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns on May 24 in Pretoria and June 1 in Cairo in the first and second legs of the CAF Champions League final.
