The New York Red Bulls continued their strong form on Wednesday in Major League Soccer with Eric Choupo-Moting scoring twice and Mohammed Sofo finding the goal again in a 4-2 victory over Charlotte FC.
Former Cameroon international Choupo-Moting came off the bench and remained perfect from the penalty spot this season, converting two spot kicks after coming on in the 64th minute. After goals from both teams left the game level at 1-1, Ghanaian forward Mohammed Sofo scored in his second consecutive match with a clever finish to put the Red Bulls ahead.
The hosts would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the match after Sofo's strike in the 29th minute. Choupo-Moting scored his first penalty of the match with a Panenka style spot kick. Charlotte pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 but the former Bayern Munich and PSG forward secured three points for the Red Bulls with one more penalty deep into second half stoppage time.
Choupo-Moting now has nine goals and an assist in sixteen games for Red Bulls since joining as a free agent signing ahead of the 2025 season. 20-year-old Sofo continues to produce, making it three consecutive matches with a goal to bring his total to seven goals in eleven games across all competitions.
The Red Bulls move up to 7th place in the Eastern Conference with the victory and will be in action again on Saturday when they host Atlanta United.
