South African football agent Mike Makaab has apologised to Kaizer Chiefs FC for comments he made regarding former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Mbule.

The CEO of Prosport International courted controversy on social media platforms after he revealed that he had offered the midfielder to the Soweto giants. Such remarks, coming after the agent had earlier rubbished reports linking Mbule to the Betway Premiership side, did not go down well with fans.

Supporters took to social media to accuse Makaab of forcing the midfielder on Chiefs now that he has fallen out of favour. Sundowns decided against renewing the 27-year-old’s contract after completing his season-long spell at Sekhukhune United last season when issues of indiscipline surfaced.

Some of the fans wondered why he did not offer Mbule to the Glamour Boys in 2022 when he moved to Sundowns. Other critics said it was unprofessional for the player-manager to disclose that he had offered the player to Nasreddine Nabi’s team.

Bess Sisa suggested that the agent was offering Mbule to Chiefs now that his fortunes have waned. “You are clearly coming out like this because Chiefs’ aren't interested. Please respect their decision already!”

The debate prompted Makaab to douse the fire by apologizing via X for revealing that he had offered Mbule to Chiefs.

“Thank you for the kind words @eddy_mahlathi, I reacted in an emotional manner without giving enough thought as to how this would be seen by all the stakeholders @KaizerChiefs,” the agent wrote, reacting to follower Eddy Mahlathi’s comments on the issue.

“I apologize to the SD @kaizerm_jr and the Club, as it was never my intention to create any problem for both him and the club. Contrary to what most of the supporters believe, I have nothing but respect and admiration for a great institution that has played such a major role in SA football.”

Makaab has since announced that he was taking a break from social media.
