Malawi: Big Bullets fined USD2,000, supporters banned

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has slapped FCB Nyasa Big Bullets with a USD2,000 (Malawi Kwacha/MK 4 million) fine over the misconduct of their six fans. The supporters have since been banned for two years. The exchange rate is USD1=MK1,700.

The sanctions follow skirmishes that happened during a Castel Challenge Cup semifinal match against Ekwendeni City Hammers in the commercial city of Blantyre on February 8, 2026.

What sanctions have been imposed on Bullets?

In a statement, the association says its disciplinary committee found Bullets guilty of counts ‘of violence and hooliganism, assaulting and bullying match officials, and bringing the game into disrepute.’

“The Committee determined that the club failed to control its supporters, who obstructed the visiting team’s dressing room access, used abusive language, interfered with security operations, and were involved in incidents affecting match officials and the competition area,” reads the statement.

“As a result, the club has been fined a total of MK4 million broken down as follows: MK1 million for violence and hooliganism, MK1 million for assaulting and bullying match officials, and MK2 million for bringing the game into disrepute.”

Bullets have been ordered to pay the fine before their next match against Goshen City Dedza Dynamos in the Castel Cup final at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

When will Bullets pay the fine?

FAM also extended the sanctions to the actual supporters who invaded the pitch of the stadium during the Castel Cup semi final.

Six supporters Chingeni Gumbala Kadam’manja, Shaibu Woyera, Trouble Ndikida Kapito, Alick Tsegula, Ganizani Baba and Dyton Bello were found guilty on two counts of bullying opponents and obstructing security operations and inciting violence.

“They have each been banned from entering any stadium hosting association football in Malawi and from participating in any football related activities for two years effective from 19 February 2026 to 19 February 2028.

“FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has been ordered to ensure enforcement of the ban. Separately, Fred Sherrif was found guilty of assaulting and bullying opponents as well as tampering with the competition area,” adds the statement.

The People’s Team is yet to respond to the punishment, but earlier hinted that it was conducting an internal probe on the matter to deal with the perpetrators.

This is a second punishment for the 17-time TNM Super League winners within four months.

The association also fined the club USSD 3,000 for incidents that occurred during the team’s 2025 FDH Bank Cup semi final match against Mighty Wanderers on 2nd November, 2025 at the same stadium in Blantyre. Wanderers won the game 1-0.
