Malawi: Big Bullets fire back to the summit, displace Wanderers

Malawi’s record league champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets fired two deadly shots to floor Kamuzu Barracks FC 2-0 in Lilongwe on Thursday and rebound back to the TNM Super League summit.

The 17-time Super League winners, had after taking control of the 16-member league over the weekend following a 4-3 victory over Civil Sporting Club, found themselves back to second place, swapping with Mighty Wanderers who had eased to a 3-0 victory over Mighty Tigers on Wednesday.

However, Bullets made sure Wanderers’ stay at the top was for just 24 hours as they scored barely after 13 minutes through man-of-the-match Chikumbutso Salima before Babatunde Adepoju added the second strike two minutes to the break. Both forwards took their league tally to 13 goals to enhance their Golden Boot Award chase.

How Salima and Adepoju scored for Bullets

Salima made the most of Chawanangwa Gumbo’s delivery to slot the ball past goalkeeper Charles Chisale of Civil.  Some 29 minutes later, Nigeria-born Adepoju extended the People’s Team’s lead with a powerful header and the creator of the goal had to be Salima.

Bullets coach Peter Mponda pushed for more goals in the second half with the offensive substitutions, introducing Sean McBrams, Hassan Kajoke, and Dominic Musonda for Chrispin Mapemba, Ephraim Kondowe and Aaron Chilipa. The Lilongwe hosts responded by withdrawing keeper Chisale for Hastings Banda. However, there were no further goals in the second half.
