Malawi has changed its domestic football calendar to align with other African leagues.

The domestic season in Malawi will now run from April to February instead of March to December.

Football Association of Malawi Director of Competitions and Communications, Gomezgani Zakazaka, confirmed that the change will start with the 2025-2026 calendar.

He said the flagship TNM Super League season, from April 5 to February 28, 2026, will be followed by the Airtel Top 8’s kick-off on April 12.

Zakazaka said the new season is transitional to, eventually, align with the August to May calendar.

“We have now embarked on the calendar switch to align with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as well as most international Leagues. The 2025/2026 season will end in February 2026, and our goal is to fully align,” he said in a statement.

A Charity Shield involving league champions, Silver Strikers, and Castle Challenge Cup winners Mighty Wanderers will raise the curtain on the new season March 29.
