Malawi: Ghanaian Atsigah pens for Silver Strikers

Ghanaian defender Eric Atsigah has joined Silver Strikers FC from another Malawi top-flight league side Chitipa United on a free transfer.

The Bankers confirmed the capture of the rock-solid centre-back on Monday, but did not state his contract duration.

Atsigah swayed Strikers after recapturing his form with Chitipa United last season when he raked up six man-of-the match accolades in the TNM Super League.

Why Atsigah has moved to Silver Strikers

Now ahead of the 2026-2027 season for the league now renamed FDH Premiership, the eight-time champions unveiled the 27-year-old to bolster the defence.

He will fill the void created by the exit of Maxwell Paipi to Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum. Atsigah has made Malawi his second home after spending over seven years in the Warm Heart of Africa. He first joined Masters Security FC and won the Carlsberg Cup with them before switching to Mighty Wanderers then Chitipa United.

Who else has signed for Silver Strikers?

The Accra-born defender is the fourth new signing for coach Peter Mgangira whose team has also lost striker Binwell Katinji to Chicken Inn in Zimbabwe.

Strikers unveiled Atsigah hours after his former team-mate at Chitipa United, youthful forward Mally Kasongo, also joined the Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored club.

Kasongo becomes the Bankers’ latest catch after goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa and Lumbani Nyondo, formerly of MAFCO FC and Chitipa United, respectively.

Seven goals in the 2025 campaign were enough for Kasongo to earn the transfer to the FDH Cup champions. The 23-year-old striker has since said he is looking forward to taking his game to the next level at Strikers.

“It is exciting to move to Lilongwe and play for Silver Strikers. Silver Strikers is one of the big clubs here in Malawi; they play to win each and every game, and their target is always to win silverwares,” he told the club’s media.

They played in the CAF Champions League last year, and that is no mean achievement. I would like to be part of such success, and I am ready to give my all.”

Malawi Transfer: 3 Major Facts About Astigah’s Impressive Move to Silver Strikers

Ghanaian defender Eric Atsigah has completed a move to Malawi top-flight side Silver Strikers FC from fellow league club Chitipa United on a free transfer.

The Lilongwe-based club, popularly known as the Bankers, confirmed the signing of the experienced centre-back on Monday as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming 2026–2027 FDH Premiership season. The club, however, did not disclose the length of Atsigah’s contract.

Atsigah arrives at Silver Strikers after an impressive campaign with Chitipa United where he rediscovered his best form. During the previous TNM Super League season in Malawi, the defender earned six Man of the Match awards, highlighting his influence and consistency at the back.

His performances attracted attention from several clubs in Malawi, but Silver Strikers moved quickly to secure his signature as they look to rebuild and compete strongly for domestic honours.

Why Atsigah has moved to Silver Strikers

Silver Strikers decided to bring in Atsigah to reinforce their defensive unit ahead of the new FDH Premiership campaign. The club is aiming to challenge for the league title after finishing the previous season outside the top positions.

The signing also comes after the departure of defender Maxwell Paipi, who recently moved to Zimbabwean club FC Platinum. Atsigah is expected to fill the defensive gap left by Paipi’s exit and bring stability to the team’s backline.

Although born in Accra, Ghana, Atsigah has built a strong football career in Malawi, where he has spent more than seven years playing in the domestic league.

He first arrived in Malawi when he signed for Masters Security FC, where he enjoyed early success by helping the club win the Carlsberg Cup. His performances then earned him a move to one of Malawi’s biggest clubs, Mighty Wanderers, before he later joined Chitipa United.

Over the years, Atsigah has developed a reputation as a strong, disciplined defender known for his leadership qualities and aerial strength.

Silver Strikers strengthening squad for new season

The signing of Atsigah forms part of a broader recruitment strategy by Silver Strikers coach Peter Mgangira, who is looking to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for silverware.

The Accra-born defender becomes the fourth new signing for the club during the current transfer window.

Silver Strikers are also adjusting their squad following the departure of striker Binwell Katinji, who has completed a move to Zimbabwean side Chicken Inn.

The club officially unveiled Atsigah shortly after announcing another signing from Chitipa United, young striker Mally Kasongo, who has also joined the Bankers.

Kasongo becomes the latest addition to a list of new recruits that includes goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa and defender Lumbani Nyondo, who previously played for MAFCO FC and Chitipa United respectively.

Kasongo eager to make impact at Silver Strikers

Young forward Mally Kasongo arrives at Silver Strikers after an impressive season in which he scored seven goals in the 2025 league campaign.

His performances helped him secure a move to the FDH Cup champions, and the 23-year-old striker has already expressed excitement about joining one of Malawi’s most successful football clubs.

“It is exciting to move to Lilongwe and play for Silver Strikers,” Kasongo told the club’s media team.

“Silver Strikers is one of the big clubs here in Malawi. They play to win every game, and their target is always to win trophies.”

Kasongo also highlighted the club’s participation in continental competitions as one of the reasons he was attracted to the move.

“They played in the CAF Champions League last year, and that is no small achievement. I would like to be part of such success, and I am ready to give my all.”

Silver Strikers eye stronger season in Malawi

With several new players arriving at the club, Silver Strikers will be hoping to mount a stronger challenge in the Malawi FDH Premiership next season.

The addition of experienced players like Atsigah, combined with promising young talents such as Kasongo, could provide the team with the balance needed to compete at the top level.
