Malawi: Kenyan defender loses Bullets FC's armband

Former Malawi champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have stripped Kenyan Clyde Senaji of the club's captaincy for reasons coach Peter Mponda has kept under wraps.

Mponda confirmed that midfielder Llyod Aaron, the previous vice-captain, has taken over the armband from the defender in leading the table-topping Peoples' Team.

“Being a captain is not just about wearing the arm-band, it is about leadership. Now I want to confirm that starting from today, the captain is Lloyd Aaron and the second captain is Yankho Singo,” the coach said as per The Nation newspaper.

The Bullets' coach has changed his mind on Senaji barely a month after appointing him, saying at the time, “It wasn't a difficult choice—he is highly experienced and has strong leadership qualities.” The Kenyan had replaced Gomezgani Chirwa, who left the Blantyre-based team to sign for FC Platinum in the Zimbabwe Premiership.

The former AFC Leopards and Tusker AFC player joined Bullets in 2023 and won back-to-back league titles. The 16-time champions have made a perfect start to the league, winning five games on the spin.
