Malawi’s TNM Super League team FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have launched investigations to establish perpetrators behind the violence that occurred on Sunday.
Irate fans pelted the TNM Super League side’s bus at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre in reaction to their team giving away a 3-1 lead in the last 10 minutes to draw 3-3 with Karonga United.
In a statement, Bullets condemned a section of their supporters for the violence vowing to deal with such behaviour.
“As a club built on the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, professionalism, and fair play, we unequivocally denounce such behaviour,” the club’s statement.
“Football must always be the winner, regardless of the result. There is no justification for damaging property or threatening players and team officials. These acts undermine the progress we have made in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all supporters and risk bringing the club, its sponsors, and partners into disrepute.”
“We remind our fans that FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has open communication channels where grievances can be raised constructively. The club will not stand by and allow a few individuals to tarnish its name.”
Bullets’ first draw of the 2025 TNM Super League season tasted like defeat for their supporters.
The former champions seemed to be heading for a routine win when midfielder Blessings Mpokera opened the scoring in the sixth minute.
Five minutes later, United equalised through striker Benjamin Mapunda before Mike Mkwate restored Bullets’ cushion with a 16th-minute strike to lead 3-1 at the break.
When play resumed, Bullets thought they had maximum points in the bag when their leading scorer Babatunde Adepoju converted from the penalty spot in the 71st minute.
However, what followed was a total collapse in the last 10 minutes.
Forward Allen Chihana scored United’s second goal six minutes later before Alfred Chizinga finally wiped out the lead for Peter Mponda’s men via a freekick goal in injury time.
The result saw Bullets finishing the first round in second place, one point behind leaders Mighty Wanderers FC. Wanderers, too, dropped points in a barren draw with Lilongwe hosts Civil Sporting United on Sunday. United wound up the first round in sixth position, 11 points behind Wanderers.
