Malawi’s senior national women’s football team coach, Lovemore Fazili, has described Ghana’s Black Queens as a perfect quality opposition to test the Scorchers.
The Silver Strikers legend said this ahead of Saturday, June 21, 2025, friendly against the West Africans in Morocco. Both teams are preparing for different Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) assignments.
“Ghana is a good team, and though we don’t know how they are playing, I believe that they are going to give us a good run. We are targeting to assess the combination of our players ahead of the crucial match against Angola,” the coach told the Football Association of Malawi media.
Fazili said the match against Ghana had come at the right time as he seeks to right the wrongs observed in Thursday’s friendly against Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses.
“This is a good development, and the game is going to help us to quickly rectify the problems that we saw during the match against Morocco,” he explained.
“The areas that we are focusing on now are in goals and defence, as we have seen that our strikers can create chances. So we will just polish up on finishing, but for defending, there is a need for more work so that we avoid conceding.”
The Scorchers will face the WAFCON-bound Ghana at Ziaida Palace Complex in Morocco. The Malawians arrived in North Africa earlier this week for a strength testing match against the Atlas Lionesses. The hosts won 4-2 on Thursday.
The meeting against the Black Queens will be the Scorchers’ sixth game this year alone, ahead of a 2026 WAFCON qualifier against Angola in October. On the other hand, the friendly presents the Black Queens with an opportunity to warm up for the 2025 WAFCON finals scheduled for Morocco.
Ghana will face Mali, holders South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, and Tanzania at the WAFCON finals. The Black Queens will play South Africa on July 7.
