Malawi’s Yabwanya Sportswear firm launched, signs deal with Blue Eagles

Malawian-owned Yabwanya Sportswear firm announced its arrival on the country’s domestic sports scene during a colourful launching ceremony in Lilongwe on Friday.

The firm, owned by Canada-based Malawian football administrator, Willy Yabwanya Phiri, marked it’s launch by signing a kit sponsorship deal with Malawi Police Service (MPS)-owned Blue Eagles FC in Area 30.

In his speech, Phiri said the deal will see his firm supplying jerseys and training kit to Eagles:

“The designs and quality of our jerseys reflect Africanness and more importantly, Malawianness. As a new kid on the block, we will strive to ensure that teams in Malawi and the entire continent are supplied with high quality but affordable playing, training and travel gear,” Phiri said.

“Our message is that if you are looking for quality and affordable jerseys, look no further than Yabwanya Sportswear. As a new kid on the block, we will strive to ensure that teams in Malawi and the entire continent are supplied with high quality but affordable playing, training and travel gear.”

MPS Commissioner responsible for research, planning and reforms, Dennis Chipao, said the signing of the agreement was the beginning of the Lilongwe-based team’s commercialisation drive:

“This partnership will facilitate availability of jerseys to all fans in Malawi. To the business community, here is an opportunity to align your brand with a team that embodies discipline. Let us be the 12th player in a team that needs to dominate this season,” Chipao said.

“Let this partnership be the beginning of a strategic collaboration that will elevate Malawi football to greater heights.”

Eagles Chief Administrative Officer, Muhamad Ali, said the club is proud to be associated with the Malawian-owned brand.

“As an ambitious club, we aspire to be the best and it is in that spirit that we entered into this partnership with Yabwanya Sportswear, an up-and-coming sports wear firm. We believe it is an investment that is going to take Blue Eagles back to the top,” Muhammad said.
