Malawi stars make fashion statement ahead of World Cup qualifier

Malawi football team star Gabadinho Mhango and his colleagues arrived in camp with a bit of fashion statement on Tuesday ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) striker is suspended for the Group H match against Equatorial Guinea in Lilongwe on Thursday.

The Richards Bay FC’s attacker accumulated two yellow cards in the recent qualifying matches hence suspended for the forthcoming game. Gabadinho will be available for selection in the next match against São Tomé Príncipe on Monday in Tunisia.

Mhango is Malawi football poster boy on and off the pitch. The former Orlando Pirates man showed that he is a fashionista in his own right after arriving in camp wearing a black top of his own clothing line of Gaba Wear.

What did the Malawi players wear in camp?

Newly-drafted Nigerian-born forward Babatunde Adepoju, too, arrived in camp looking like a model. The FCB Nyasa Big Bullets man wore a top and hat with baggy trousers.

A BB-labelled top and hood was all midfielder Lloyd Njaliwa settled for. He plays for Costa do Sol in Mozambique.

Zambia-based forward Chawanangwa Kaonga opted for faded pair of shot, an orange T-shirt and matching hat.

The Flames are expected to translate their off-the field elegance onto the pitch. They face Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Príncipe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Thursday and Monday respectively.
