Malawi’s top-flight league side, Songwe Border United FC, has demoted coach Enoch Mhone after failing to win four straight opening games in their debut TNM Super League campaign.

Popularly known as Ndenga Boys, the rookies have since hired Christopher Nyambose as their main man in charge and demoted Mhone to a deputy in a bid to rescue the season.

A statement from the clubs says they held meetings, including with traditional leaders in the Northern Region border district of Karonga, last week to establish the cause of the struggles for the community-based outfit.

“Several shortcomings were identified, and potential solutions were proposed. Among those was the restructuring of the technical panel to bring in an individual with extensive Super League experience, having managed more than two Super League clubs over the past five years,” the statement reads.

Coach Nyambose has a difficult assignment to right the wrongs of Songwe Border United FC, which has, since its TNM Super League promotion this season, lost 2-1 to Ekhaya United, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets (7-0), Blue Eagles (4-0) and Moyale Barracks FC (1-0).

The rookies anchor the 16-member log table that Bullets and Ekhaya lead jointly with nine points apiece from three and four games, respectively.
