Malawi’s new Technical Director Yvon Av speaks out

The Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) new Technical Director (TD) Yvon Avry has spoken of his mandate after finally being unveiled in Blantyre on Friday.

The Frenchman, who succeeded Malawian Benjamin Kumwenda whose contract expired, stressed the need for a bottom-top approach to football development starting from the grassroots.

Speaking to the Football Association of Malawi media, Avry threw his weight behind the association’s president Fleetwood Haiya’s Transformation Agenda.

“What is important is to start from the foundation, which is the grassroots, and build something strong for Malawi. I am here to bring my expertise and help move the game forward,” he said.

Why the Malawi TD’s role Avry is important

Haiya said he was confident that the former Malagasy TD would help strengthen Malawi’s grassroots and youth football structures.

“We cannot develop quality players without quality coaches. The modern game demands professionalism, technical depth and continuous learning. Malawi must develop a new generation of well-trained and internationally certified coaches. An empowered coach is a multiplier of talent,” the FAM boss said.

Avry holds a UEFA A Licence served in a similar role, including as FIFA Technical Consultant, TD of Brunei Darussalam, and Technical Advisor for the Fédération Malagasy de Football.
