Saturday's goal scorer for Silver Strikers, MacDonald Lameck
Silver Strikers beat Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 1-0 to claim the TNM Super League title on Saturday afternoon, effectively ending FCB Nyasa Big Bullets' five-year monopoly. Wing-back MacDonald Lameck scored the only goal of the title decider in the 53rd minute to further dampen the mood among the home crowd of Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The visitors went into the game needing just three points to win the title after they defeated relegated Baka City 2-0 on Wednesday while second placed Wanderers had on the same day drawn two-all with Mafco FC. The Nomads, as Wanderers are called affectionately, went into Saturday's game hoping to salvage some pride as the first team to hand Silver a first league defeat this campaign.
However, it the visiting Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored team that extended it's unbeaten stretch to 28 matches following the win over the Nomads.
Silver have now taken their league championship tally to nine, ending deposed holders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets' dominance of the championship dating back to 2018. Ironically, Silver needed the hiring of Bullets legend Peter Mponda as a coach to earn the title, the first which is also his first as a stand-alone mentor.
Silver's ninth league title make them the second highest winners behind Bullets' 16 whereas Wanderers have six. Overall, Malawi's domestic season runs from March to December and mobile phone service company TNM are the league's sponsors.
At the end of a season, the champion enters the CAF Champions League race with the bottom-three finishers getting relegated to the second-tier league, making way for three regional league champions to earn promotion to the Super League. So far, Baka City are the sure relegation candidates with FOMO FC, Mafco and Bangwe All-Stars all under threat.
