The TNM Super League’s table is as it was last week at the top in Malawi. Second-placed Mighty Wanderers dropped points on Sunday thereby failing to capitalize on leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ loss on the same day.
Wanderers, who are called the Nomads, left their sworn rivals off the hook after a 0-0 away draw at Chitipa United in the Northern Region. Bob Mpinganjira’s team occupies second place on aggregate behind Bullets.
The record TNM Super League 17-time champions Bullets lost 2-0 to Creck Sporting Club in the Central Region on Sunday. The pacesetters have 56 points from 25 games, one more than Wanderers.
Played in the Western border district of Mchinji, Bullets found the going tough against a side managed by their former coach Elia Kananji. George Chaomba and Jackson Beza’s second half goals sealed the victory for the home side.
It means the Nomads can open a three-point gap from Bullets after winning the game in hand. The Nomads are gunning for their first TNM Super League title since 2017 and remain undefeated this season.
However, Wanderers’ progress has been pegged back by eight draws in 25 games compared to two for Bullets who have now suffered their fifth league defeat.
The Nomads have six games remaining to the finish line against Ekhaya FC, Moyale Barracks, Civo Sporting Club, Songwe Border United, Kamuzu Barracks all at home then on the road versus Mzuzu City Hammers.
Bullets have four remaining games against Ekhaya FC, Moyale Barracks FC and Ekwendeni Hammers at home before travelling to face Karonga United.
In other games played on Sunday, defending champions Silver Strikers edged Lilongwe city rivals Civil Sporting United 1-0 to remain in third place, nine points behind the joint leaders.
Goshen City Dedza Dynamos eased their relegation fears with a 2-1 victory over Mafco United while Karonga United suffered a home 0-1 loss to Ekhaya FC.
