Malawi: Wanderers extend star Mpinganjira’s contract

Malawi’s TNM Super League leaders Mighty Wanderers have tied down their prized asset Wisdom Mpinganjira to a three-year contract extension.

The winger, by far Malawi’s best player in a generation starved of real stars, has been a guiding light for Wanderers, who also called the Nomads.

Wanderers’ chief executive officer, Panganeni Ndovi, told the club’s media that they had to move in swiftly to extend the attacker’s contract.

“We are happy to announce that we have reached an agreement with Wisdom Mpinganjira. He has been an integral part of our team’s success, and we are excited that we can keep him for the next three years,” Ndovi said.

The Flames’ winger has since said he is excited to continue playing for the seven-time TNM Super League champions.

“It is an honour to maintain the blue badge. I am excited for the challenge ahead of me. There is a lot of work to be done. I look forward to working with my team-mates, technical panel and our supporters in bringing glory to our beloved club,” he said.

Mpinganjira, whose father Bob is Wanderers’ coach, is the Blantyre-based team’s leading scorer. He has five league goals and seven assists this far.

The winger is a regular for Malawi senior football team, the Flames and has some 22 caps.
