Malawian Singo’s potential Golden Arrows’ transfer collapses

Malawian midfielder Yankho Singo’s potential transfer to Betway Premiership side, Lamontville Golden Arrows FC, has collapsed.

The Flames star had traveled to South Africa weeks ago reportedly to finalise his transfer to Arrows from TNM Super League top club, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

Several news outlets in Malawi had suggested that Manqoba Mngqhithi-led team had offered the defensive midfielder a two-year contract.

However, Singo rejoined Bullets last week and has since resumed training. Bullets Chief Executive Officer, Albert Chigoga, told Malawi’s The Nation newspaper that they never indicated that the player was joining Arrows.

“We never confirmed Yankho’s transfer to any club. It was social media gossip throughout. Yankho remains a Bullets player until such a time an opportunity for his move will come,” Chigoga said.

Arrows had invited Singo to Durban after monitoring his stellar displays for Bullets and Malawi’s Flames.

Singo has featured in over 60 games for Bullets and helped them win the Airtel Top 8 cup last season.

The 25-year-old has made six appearances for the senior national football team, establishing himself as a regular; a deep lying midfielder good at winning the ball and shielding the defence.

Bullets extended the midfielder’s contract by three years earlier this year and had hoped to cash on him. However, it was not to be. Richards Bay FC’s Gabadinho Mhango remains the only Malawian on the books of a Betway Premiership team at the moment.
