Muhammad Sulumba has become the first Malawian to play professional football in Libya after moving to the North African country’s second-tier side Al-Naser Zliten.
The player’s firm, Bellucci Sports Agency, released a statement confirming Sulumba’s free transfer following his contract expiration with Lilongwe-based Creck Sporting Club.
“We are thrilled to announce the transfer of our Malawian international striker, Muhammad Sulumba, to Al Naser Zliten in Libya. After shining in the Gulf, he’s ready to make his mark in Africa once again,” the statement reads.
Muhamad burst on the scene around 2012 at Blantyre United (now defunct) before signing for Mighty Wanderers two years later then FCB Nyasa Big Bullets between 2016 and 2016.
The 30-year-old’s search for greener pastures took him to Polokwane City in South Africa in 2018 scoring just twice. He eventually flirted with clubs in Iran and Bahrain in the last four seasons between stints back home at Wanderers (2022) and Civil Sporting Club (2020).
