Kansas City Current FC’s Malawian striker Temwa Chawinga has won the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month award for May 2025 in the United States.

It is the second monthly award for the 2024 NWSL Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot winner. She also earned a similar feat in March 2025.

Chawinga has won the accolade five times in her career since joining the league ahead of the 2024 season from Chinese side Wuhan.

The Malawian holds the NWSL record for most Player of the Month honours, shrugging off Kim Little and Megan Rapinoe, previous holders of that record, according to Kansas City media.

The 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship winner now has the most regular-season game-winning goals of any NWSL player since joining the league in 2024.

The Scorchers forward has bagged six goals and one assist this season. She is also ranked third in the league with 14 shots on target.

NWSL Media Association selects the stand-out players for every month.
