Head coach of Mali senior team, Tom Saintfiet has set sight on leading the Ghana national team in future.
The Belgium tactician has a rich experience on the continent having managed the likes of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Malawi, Togo and recently The Gambia before moving to the Philippines.
The 52-year-old replaced ex-international Eric Chelle as head coach of the Eagles, losing his first competitive match by 1-0 against Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on match day 8.
Reflecting on whether he will love to coach the Ghana Black Star in the near future, the former Young Africans of Tanzania trainer had this to say.
“Otto Addo has a contract till 2027. My contract ends in August 2026. It could be the next one.
“It doesn’t mean tomorrow, it can be the next year or two. The moment I’m available and my contract with Mali has ended, then I’m interested.
“For now, my focus is on Mali,” Saintfiet told Adom TV.
Saintfiet was linked with the Black Stars job following the dismissal of Chris Hughton after Ghana’s disappointing run at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast however, the Ghana Football Association opted to reappoint Otto Addo as Hughton’s successor.
