Malick Daf swaps Jaraaf for Teungueth for major coaching shift in Senegal’s Ligue 1

In a very surprising move, Malick Daf has left Senegalese champions ASC Jaraaf to become the new head coach of Teungueth FC. The club, which narrowly avoided relegation, signed Daf in what could be a major coup in Senegalese domestic football.

The former Senegal U-20 head coach signed a three-year deal. Jaraaf officially disclosed that they learned about Daf’s appointment at Teungueth through a press release on July 24. However, Daf formally informed the league champions of his desire to leave on Sunday, July 27.

“ASC Jaraaf of Dakar has learned, through the official press release from Teungueth FC, of the signing of Malick Daf on July 24, 2025. We would like to point out that it was on Sunday, July 27, 2025, that Jaraaf was formally informed of his intention to leave the club. Jaraaf respects his decision and wishes him every success in this new professional adventure.”

Daf recently lost the Senegal Cup final against Génération Foot, and some fans had begun to question his style of play and game management. Still, his departure comes as a surprise, especially as Jaraaf is aiming for a stronger showing in the CAF Champions League.

Daf was instrumental in making Jaraaf Senegalese champions for the first time since 2018 during his second stint at the club. He also led them to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2024/25 season. The highly rated coach previously won the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as head coach of Senegal.

Teungueth FC officially announced they are pleased to have Malick Daf as their new head coach. The club hopes to return to the top of Senegal Ligue 1 next season and replicate their 2024 league success under Daf’s leadership.
