Mamadou Diakhon: “I’m excited to have made Senegal debut”

Senegal youngster Mamadou Diakhon has reacted to his first appearance for the Teranga Lions during the March FIFA international window.

The 20-year-old was brought in by coach Pape Thiaw for the two international friendlies against Peru and the Gambia but he made his debut against the neighbors.

Diakhon was a second half substitute, joining the fray in the 64th minute for Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium on Tuesday March 31.

The Club Brugge winger spent a few minute to talk about his first cap for Senegal after the 3-1 win over the Gambia.

Diakhon joined Club Brugge from Reims

“Frankly, [I am] very happy, very excited, very proud to have earned first minute at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium today with beautiful supporters,” he said.

“I want thank everyone, to thank all the supporters who were here to support us and I’m very excited.

Diakhon has an impressive statistic this season in the Belgium Jupiler Pro League, collecting 20 games with seven assists.

He signed for Club Brugge last year from Stade Reims, having gone through their youth system.

His youth career started off at Strasbourg and Kronenbourg and he has represented France at the youth level up to the U-20.
