He’s still got it! Mame Biram Diouf scores four goals in Turkish second tier match

The Turkish second tier 1. Lig is where many former African national team stars go towards the end of their career and former Senegal national team striker Mame Biram Diouf is a perfect example of a player who is thriving at that level.

The 38-year-old former Stoke City and Hannover player was involved in all five goals with four goals and an assist for Keçiörengücü in their 5-0 victory against Hatayspor on Sunday.

Biram Diouf utilized his experience of playing in cold weather at the likes of Stoke as well as his early career in Norway. Snowy conditions provided no hindrance for the veteran forward as he torched former club Hatayspor, where he scored 31 goals in 73 appearances back when the club was in the top tier Super Lig.

He opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a header from close range before doubling his tally in first half stoppage time. Collecting the ball on the right side of the penalty area, Diouf used the slippery pitch conditions well to create space for his powerful left-footed finish.

The Senegalese then set up Nigerian midfielder Francis Ezeh for Keçiörengücü’s third goal in the 63rd minute but he was far from done. Another header from a corner kick in the 72nd minute and one final poacher’s finish from close range in the 88th minute completed the humiliation of the Hatayspor defense.

Mame Biram Diouf boosted his goal total to nine goals from seventeen matches this season in the 1. Lig, continuing on with a successful spell at the Ankara club where he produced 14 goals in 28 league appearances last season. Keçiörengücü have not lost a match since the end of November and are currently in 9th place on the league table.

Biram Diouf scored 10 goals in 48 appearances for the Senegal national team, representing the Lions of Teranga at the 2015 and 2017 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He scored the equalizer in a 2-1 victory over Ghana at the 2015 AFCON, his only goal in a major tournament for Senegal.
