Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the signing of Bafana Bafana international left-back Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC, ahead of the new season.

The Tshwane giants welcomed Basadien to the club on Saturday, announcing the Bafana left-back’s arrival with a social media post titled “Basadien joins the home of champions.”

The post read: “New season, new signings. It’s time to get ready for a new season! Introducing our newest signing – the versatile & talented Fawaaz Basadien. Welcome to the Yellow Nation, Fawaaz.”

The club further emphasised the significance of the signing, stating, “The Yellow Nation is proud to welcome Bafana Bafana international defender, Fawaaz Basadien.”

The 28-year-old Basadien has seen a remarkable ascent in South African football since joining Stellenbosch from the defunct Moroka Swallows three seasons ago. Initially a winger, he successfully transitioned to left-back at Swallows and has since become one of the most sought-after players in South Africa. His impressive form even earned him a regular place on the national team.

Despite strong links to Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates over the past year, it was Masandawana who ultimately secured his signature. This comes after Stellenbosch FC, initially reluctant to part with such an influential player, had even signed him to an improved contract before the start of last season.

Basadien is set to join the reigning champions as they pursue a record ninth consecutive DStv Premiership title in the 2025/26 campaign.
