Manchester United have held talks with Nigerian defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi over a potential transfer to Old Trafford this summer.
The 28-year-old could be available for a fee of just nine million pounds, which comes from a specific clause in his contract that was triggered by Leicester City’s recent relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.
It has already been reported that United have tabled an initial bid of five million pounds for the Super Eagles player.
This move aligns with reports that the Red Devils are actively seeking to reinforce their midfield, with Ndidi seen by many as a potential upgrade and successor to experienced Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who turned 33 this year.
Since joining Leicester City from Belgian side Genk in January 2017, the Nigerian has been a consistent performer, making over 300 appearances for the Foxes. He was a crucial component of the team that famously won the FA Cup in 2021.
While Ndidi recently signed a new three-year contract extension with Leicester last summer, which would keep him at the King Power Stadium until at least 2027, this release clause provides him with the flexibility to pursue a return back to the Premier League.
He has also been linked with clubs in the Bundesliga, La Liga and even the Saudi Arabia.
