Manchester United have emerged as the front runners to sign Brentford FC's hot cake Bryan Mbeumo, Sky Sports reports.
The authoritative sports news outlet has confirmed with its sources that Ruben Amorim has entered the race to sign the Cameroonian.
“It's understood they are getting encouragement that Mbeumo wants to come to Old Trafford,” Sky Sports reports. “No talks have taken place between the clubs, but formal discussions are now expected to proceed. United will face competition, with some Premier League clubs keen on the player.”
It is believed that Amorim views Mbeumo as a perfect fit into United’s playing system. The Portuguese manager sees the forward as plan B in case Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes leave. The duo’s future at Old Trafford is unclear.
Mbeumo is heading into the final year of his contract with Brentford who seem ready to listen to offers for the Cameroonian. Brentford FC captain Christian Norgaard recently admitted that he expects Mbeumo to leave the club, but he is unsure about his Congolese counterpart Yoane Wissa.
“I am pretty calm about what might happen with Bryan and Wissa because a lot of questions are being asked about them. You can almost feel the worries among the players when you talk about them leaving the club,” Norgaard told Sky Sports TV.
Mbeumo and Wissa were in red-hot form this just-ended season, with the former scoring 20 league goals, one ahead of the Congolese counterpart. This made them the hottest strike partnership.
