Manqoba Mngqithi: I was not excited with Golden Arrows

Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi says he was not excited with his team’s performance against Durban City in the top-flight league of South Africa on Tuesday evening.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach told SuperSport Television that he left Chatsworth Stadium disappointed with his club’s performance in the Betway Premiership game.

“I was not very excited with the game. In the first half, we had some nice moments, but in the final third, we made unnecessary mistakes,” Mngqithi said in a pitchside post-match interview.

“We conceded a goal from nowhere; from poor positioning in defending a lateral freekick…in the second half, we started very well but I think it was only a matter of 15 minutes of good football. Thereafter, we started thinking of defence.”

The Arrows mentor added that the only consolation from the third Betway Premiership game was his squad’s growth in character.

“I did not enjoy football. I think I enjoyed the character because that is probably one thing that is growing within the group, but we can still do better. I did not enjoy the game,” Mngqithi said.

City scored the opener after Haashim Domingo’s free kick was deflected into his own net by Arrows’ Jerome Karelse.

However, Arrows responded through Ivorian striker Junior Dion’s clever flick past Darren Keet minutes before the half-time break.

City now have seven points from three games, two points behind joint leaders Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United. Arrows lie in seventh place with four points.
